Volunteering at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano 2017

On April 16, 2017, the Healthy Lifestyle for Youth team went to the Food Bank in Concord to assist the organization in packaging and delivering donated produce (specifically potatoes, apples, and carrots, but also other varied food types).

At this event, the team learned about the importance of maintaining a healthy diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as how the Concord Food Bank specifically packages fresh fruit/veggies, canned foods, bottled waters, and more that they receive as donations and transport them to those in need right in our own community.

In addition to packaging the fresh produce and canned goods that will go towards fellow community members, the team also wrote a letter to the congressman of California, which urged him to take action to support a law that would enable fresh produce to be sold at cheaper prices at supermarkets, which would make them more accessible and affordable to low income families who still want to maintain a well-balanced diet of fruit and vegetables.
