Cal State East Bay Empower the Youth 5K

On April 20th, 2019, the Healthy Lifestyle for Youth team went to Cal State East Bay to help out with the 5K race and run with the kids. It was a very chilly Saturday morning when we arrived at 8:00, but we soon warmed up after a round of dynamic stretches and exercises.

This 5K race was organized in collaboration with the Cal State East Bay Department of Kinesiology, and the mission behind it is to educate and increase awareness among the Hayward community about the importance of healthy lifestyles and information on supporting programs and organizations within the community.

Overall, the event was a great success! It was the first time that Cal State East Bay organized a 5K race on their site, and the organization of the prizes, course route, and course safety flowed very smoothly for a first time experience.

All the kids, as well as other Hayward community members, did an amazing job on this course and were all smiling as they crossed the finish line. We hope to organize this race again next year, as well as in continue in the upcoming years! Additionally, Healthy Lifestyle for Youth hopes to continue to collaborate with other institutions and organizations that share our mission of youth empowerment through promoting the active and healthy lifestyles of youth in our local and global community!#healthyyouthhealthyfuture
