Healthy Lifestyle for Youth (HLFY) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that simply started out as one girl’s passion for running. Over the past 3 years, our 16 year-old founder and runner, Grace Lu has worked as a health advocate for youth and teens. The mentally and physically demanding sport inspired her to design her own line of personal running jewelry in order to motivate herself and other runners, which ultimately led to her starting her own running jewelry company (My Favorite Run) through the help of family and friends. Eventually, she decided to go one step further and start a non-profit organization designated to improving and promoting healthy lifestyles throughout the community. Her dedication to inspiring young people to embrace healthy lifestyle, helping to inspire their friends and family, is a shining example that one is never too young to make a positive and lasting impact in the world.
Healthy Lifestyle For Youth has gained federal recognition, as well as recognition from various other local organizations such as the San Ramon Valley Education Fund and the Contra Costa Crisis Center. In addition, HLFY has supported and sponsored other beneficial national organizations (such as Free ME from Lung Cancer Save Your Breath 2016 5k Run/Walk, Association for Individual Development (AID) 5K Color Run, 2016 Chris Kyle Memorial Run) by donating pieces of inspirational running jewelry from My Favorite Run to be used as prizes.
We are committed to providing support for the mental and physical health of children and youth so that they can learn to live more productive and enjoyable lives. Our goal is to encourage the youth to exercise more, eat better and practice positive thoughts. We believe that when parents, families, schools, community and youth all work together, they are capable to an even greater extent to make healthy decisions.
Here’s what we do.
First, we recognize areas that are in need of our support. With the support of our sponsors and the collaboration of our team, we work directly with schools and communities in need,
Secondly, we inform individuals about the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle. We educate these individuals to empower them to positively take charge of their lives.
Lastly, and most importantly, we inspire change. Not only do our programs strive for participants to become more active, they enable them to cultivate their self- confidence and passion.
